베푸는 이의 진실함이 선물의 질보다 중요하다고 가르치시며 궁핍해진 급고독(給孤獨, Anāthapiṇḍika)장자를 위로하시는 경으로, 전설적인 벨라마(Velāma)의 보시를 예로 들고 삼귀의와 그 밖의 더 높은 수행보다는 아래로 자리매김한다.

A discourse in which the Buddha consoles the impoverished Anāthapiṇḍika by teaching that the giver’s sincerity matters more than the quality of the gift, illustrated through the legendary generosity of Velāma and ranked beneath taking refuge and other higher practices.
