遊女アンバパーリーとビンビサーラ王の息子である比丘で、仏陀の威厳に感銘を受けて出家し、まもなく阿羅漢果を得た。

A monk, son of the courtesan Ambapālī and King Bimbisāra, who entered the Order after being impressed by the Buddha’s majesty and soon attained Arahantship.
