しつこく頼み込むジャッカルの仲間の要求を聞き入れ、象を殺そうとすることを許すライオンについての本生譚で、ジャッカルは跳躍を誤って押しつぶされ死んでしまうという話であり、提婆達多が仏陀を装おうとして失敗したことに関連して説かれた。

A birth story about a lion who, granting his jackal companion’s persistent request, allows him to attempt killing an elephant, only for the jackal to be crushed to death when he misjudges his leap, told in reference to Devadatta’s failed attempt to pose as the Buddha.
