Bārāṇasī の裕福な財務官の息子で、苦悩のあまり贅沢な家を出奔し、Isipatana で仏の教えを受けて阿羅漢果を得た人物。彼の父は三帰依を受けた最初の在家信者となった。

The son of a wealthy treasurer of Bārāṇasī who fled his luxurious home in distress, was taught by the Buddha at Isipatana, attained Arahantship, and whose father became the first lay follower to take the threefold refuge.

Kākandakaputta と称され、アーナンダの弟子で、Vajjī の比丘たちが独断で提出した十事に公然と反対し、その抗議がこの論争を解決するために開かれた結集を促した。

Called Kākandakaputta, a pupil of Ānanda who publicly opposed the Vajjī monks’ unauthorized “Ten Points” and whose protest helped precipitate the council convened to settle the dispute.
