Dubbalakaṭṭha Jātaka
Jātaka히마와에서 붙잡혔다가 조련사에게서 도망친 코끼리가 항상 두려움 속에서 살았는데, 나무 정령이었던 보살이 그 두려움을 없애주었다는 이야기로, 늘 죽음을 두려워하는 한 비구에 비유되며 그 비구는 코끼리의 전생인 자타카.
Once an elephant, caught in the Himavā, while being trained by the king’s trainers, broke away from his chains and escaped to the mountains. There he lived in a constant state of terror until the Bodhisatta, who was a tree-sprite, dispelled his fears.
The story was told in reference to a monk who was always in fear of death. He is identified with the elephant. J.i.414-6.
