Gajjabāhuka-gāmaṇi
PersonEin König von Sri Lanka (174–196 n. Chr.), auch Gajabāhu genannt, der für seine Mutter das Mātuvihāra erbaute, die Abhayagiri-Cetiya erweiterte und dem später die Einführung des Kults der Göttin Pattini zugeschrieben wird.
Also called Gajabāhu; king of Sri Lanka (174-96 A.C.); son of Vaṅkanāsika Tissa. He founded the Mātuvihāra in honour of his mother, made additions to the Abhayagiri Cetiya, constructed the Gamaṇitissa reservoir, and built the Rāmuka-vihāra and the Mahejāsana-sālā (Mhv.xxxv.115 ff; Dpv.xxii.13, 28,29).
In later chronicles he is credited with having invaded the Coḷa kingdom to avenge a raid made on Sri Lanka and with having introduced the cult of the goddess Pattini into Sri Lanka. See Codrington, Short History of Sri Lanka, pp.23 f.
