Jātaka

ජඹු වනයක ගසේ දෙවියෙකු වූ බෝධිසත්ත්වයා, කැහැටියෙකුගේ ප්‍රශංසාවෙන් ආඩම්බර වූ කපුටෙකු නරඹමින්, බොරු කියන දෙදෙනාම එළවා දමන ජාතක කතාවකි — දේවදත්ත සහ කෝකාලික එකිනෙකා ප්‍රශංසා කරමින් සිටින බවට ආරංචි වූ වාර්තා සම්බන්ධයෙන් කියැවේ.

The Bodhisatta was once a tree-sprite in a jambu-grove and saw how a crow, flattered by the words of a jackal sitting under the tree, dropped fruits for him to eat, praising his breeding. The sprite drove them both away as being liars.

The story was related in reference to a report that Devadatta and Kokālika were going about singing each other’s praises. J.ii.438 f; cp. Anta Jātaka.
