Mahā-Assapura Sutta
SuttaСутта, произнесённая в Ассапуре, описывающая качества — нравственную чистоту, обуздание чувств, умеренность, памятование и медитативное сосредоточение, — которые делают монаха истинным отшельником, достойным этого имени.
Taught at Assapura, in the Aṅga country.
Since monks are called recluses (samaṇa) they must train themselves to be true recluses and brahmins (brāhmaṇa); they should be:
conscientious and scrupulous,
pure in deed, word, and thought,
guarding the doors of the senses,
moderate in eating,
ever vigilant, mindful, and self-possessed,
striving to abandon the five hindrances (nivaraṇā) and cultivate absorption (jhāna).
Such an almsman can truly be called a recluse (samaṇa), a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), one who is cleansed (nhātaka), a sage (vedagū), a scholar (sottiya), a Noble One (ariya), and a worthy saint (arahaṃ). He is an ideal recluse. M.i.271-80.
