Person붓다고사에 따르면 이는 빔비사라 왕의 본명으로, 거의 항상 그의 왕호와 결합된 이름으로 불린다. 이 이름이 그의 대군에서 유래했는지, 아니면 같은 이름을 가진 씨족에서 유래했는지에 대해 주석가들의 견해가 갈린다.
The personal name, according to Buddhaghosa, of King Bimbisāra (MA.i.292; but see SNA.ii.448, mahatiyā senāya samannāgatattā), who is almost always referred to as Seniya Bimbisāra. Dhammapāla says (UdA.104), however, that Bimbisāra was called Seniya either because he had a large army, or because he belonged to the Seniya clan (mahatiyā senāya samannāgātatta vā Seniyagottatā vā).
