It is nowhere mentioned in the four Nikāyas, nor included among the sixteen great countries (Mahājanapada).

The mother of Sīhabāhu and Sīhasīvalī was a Vaṅga princess, the daughter of the Vaṅga king who had married the daughter of the king of Kāliṅga (Mhv.vi.1 ff; Dpv.ix.2).

The Milindapañha(p.359) mentions Vaṅga as a trading place to be reached by sea.
