妻の妊娠中に二度出家を試み、妻の死後についに成功する貧しい男についての本生譚で、家族の絆から解放されたことを喜ぶという話であり、仏陀が情欲の束縛を捕らえられた盗賊団を縛る鎖にたとえた際に説かれた。
