裸形の苦行者と異なり衣を着ていた遍歴行者で、アヌピヤーの近くに住み、スナッカッタの友人であった。ブッダはかつて彼を訪ねて会話をし、それは『パーティカ経』に記録されている。バッガヴァ族に属していたため、この名で呼ばれた。

A wanderer who wore clothes, unlike naked ascetics, living near Anupiyā and a friend of Sunakkhatta, whom the Buddha once visited for a conversation recorded in the Pāṭika Sutta; he was so named because he belonged to the Bhaggava clan.
