カッサパ仏の二大弟子の一人。

息子を他所へ学びに送り出した後、自らブッダの説法を聞いて出家し阿羅漢果を得た、ラージャガハのバラモン。その後、密かに出家していた同じ息子と再会した。

A brahmin of Rājagaha who, after sending his son to study elsewhere, himself heard the Buddha teach, became a monk, attained Arahantship, and was later reunited with that same son, who had also secretly become a monk.

妻が絶えずブッダを称賛するのに苛立ち、直接ブッダに詰め寄ったところ逆に説き伏せられて出家し阿羅漢果を得た、ラージャガハのバーラドヴァージャ・バラモン一族の長兄。数人の弟たちも彼にならった。

The eldest of a Bhāradvāja brahmin clan in Rājagaha whose wife’s constant praise of the Buddha so annoyed him that he confronted the Buddha directly, only to be won over, ordain, and attain Arahantship, with several brothers following his example.

ブラフマーとの合一に至る道をめぐって友人ヴァーセッタと交わした議論が、ブッダによる『テーヴィッジャ経』説示のきっかけとなった、タールッカ門下の若きバラモン弟子。二人とも出家し阿羅漢果を得た。
