目覚めと眠りについての樹神の謎かけを解く森の苦行者についての本生譚で、夜通し落ち着かず歩き回っていたことで気づかぬうちに盗賊の隊商襲撃を思いとどまらせ、そのために大いに敬われた在家信者にちなんで説かれた。

A Jātaka about a forest ascetic who solves a tree-spirit’s riddle about waking and sleeping, told about a lay disciple who unknowingly deterred bandits from attacking his caravan simply by pacing restlessly through the night, for which he was greatly honoured.
