「有想でも無想でもない」という臨終の言葉を残した苦行者（菩薩）の話で、その言葉を筆頭弟子は正しく解釈したが他の者たちは信じず、菩薩自身が梵天界から降りてその説明を確認するに至ったジャータカ。サンカッサで舎利弗が示した解釈に関連して語られた。

A Jātaka about an ascetic, the Bodhisatta, whose dying words ‘neither conscious nor unconscious’ were correctly interpreted by his chief disciple but disbelieved by the others, until the Bodhisatta descended from the Brahma-world to confirm the explanation — told in reference to an interpretation given by Sāriputta at Saṅkassa.
