スッドーダナの大臣の一人の息子で、仏陀と同じ日に生まれ、その遊び相手として育てられた。阿羅漢果を得た後、仏陀にカピラヴァットゥの親族訪問を説得し、法によって家族を喜ばせることにおいて比丘の中で第一と称された

The son of one of Suddhodana’s ministers, born on the same day as the Buddha and raised as his playmate, who after attaining Arahantship persuaded the Buddha to visit his kinsmen at Kapilavatthu and was declared foremost among monks in gladdening families with the Dhamma.
