숫도다나의 대신 중 한 명의 아들로, 부처님과 같은 날 태어나 그의 놀이친구로 자랐다. 아라한과를 얻은 후 부처님께 카필라밧투의 친족들을 방문하시도록 설득했고, 법으로 가족을 기쁘게 하는 데 있어 비구들 가운데 제일로 칭송받았다

The son of one of Suddhodana’s ministers, born on the same day as the Buddha and raised as his playmate, who after attaining Arahantship persuaded the Buddha to visit his kinsmen at Kapilavatthu and was declared foremost among monks in gladdening families with the Dhamma.
