코끼리를 죽이려고 벽지불의 황색 가사로 위장한 사냥꾼이, 그 가사에 대한 존경심 때문에 보살(Bodhisatta)인 코끼리 우두머리에게 목숨을 건졌다는 이야기로, 데바닷타(Devadatta)가 훌륭한 가사를 걸치는 부당한 가장을 비유하기 위해 설해진 자타카.

A Jātaka about a hunter who slew elephants while disguised in a Pacceka Buddha’s yellow robe, spared by the Bodhisatta-elephant leader out of respect for the robe, told to illustrate Devadatta’s unworthy pretense in wearing a fine robe.
