犬のように振る舞う誓いを実践していた裸行の苦行者。『クックラヴァティカ経』に記されているように、仏陀を訪ねた後に僧団に加わり、やがて阿羅漢となった。

A naked ascetic who practised the vow of behaving like a dog; after visiting the Buddha, as recorded in the Kukkuravatika Sutta, he joined the Order and in time became an Arahant.

ブッダゴーサによれば、これはビンビサーラ王の本名であり、その称号と結合した名で呼ばれることがほとんどである。注釈家の間では、この名が彼の大軍に由来するのか、それとも同名の氏族に由来するのかで見解が分かれる。
