バーラーナシー（Bārāṇasī）の王として生まれた菩薩の本生譚。カケスの耳障りな鳴き声と歌うカッコウへの廷臣たちの反応を対比させることで、口の悪い母親を改心させた。アナータピンディカ（Anāthapiṇḍika）の口論好きな義理の娘スジャーター（Sujātā）に関連して説かれた。

A birth-story of the Bodhisatta as king of Bārāṇasī who reformed his harsh-tongued mother by contrasting the courtiers’ reactions to a screeching jay and a singing cuckoo, told in reference to Anāthapiṇḍika’s quarrelsome daughter-in-law Sujātā.

王家の司祭として生まれた菩薩の本生譚。王は果物売りの娘の声に恋をし、彼女を王妃にした。仏陀が解決を助けたパセーナディ（Pasenadi）王とマッリカー（Mallikā）王妃の間の有名な口論に関連して説かれた。

A birth-story of the Bodhisatta as a royal chaplain whose king fell in love with a fruit-seller’s daughter’s voice and made her queen, told in reference to a famous quarrel between King Pasenadi and Queen Mallikā that the Buddha helped resolve.

スジャータ（Sujāta）という名の地主として生まれた菩薩の本生譚。祖父の死に過度に悲しむ父を治すため、死んだ牛を悼んで狂ったふりをした。父の死後同様に悲嘆に暮れる在家信者に対して説かれた。

A birth-story of the Bodhisatta as a landowner named Sujāta who feigned madness over a dead ox to cure his father of excessive grief over a grandfather’s death, told to a lay follower likewise consumed by grief after his father’s death.
