賤民に一度も踏まれたことのない場所でのみ自分を荼毘に付すよう息子に指示するバラモンについての本生譚で、息子とともにそのような場所を探すうち、まさにこの地こそすでに一万四千回も彼の火葬を見てきたのだと明かす聖なる苦行者に出会い、その啓示を用いて死を超える道を説くという話で、森に住む沙弥に仏陀が説いた。

A Jātaka about a brahmin who instructs his son to cremate him only at a spot untouched by outcasts, and who, while searching for such a place with his son, encounters a holy ascetic who reveals that this very spot has already seen his cremation fourteen thousand times before, using the revelation to teach the path beyond death, told by the Buddha to a forest-dwelling novice.
