Besser bekannt als Kuṭumbiyaputta-Tissa, ein Thera, der auf großen Reichtum verzichtete, um im Wald zu leben, und der, als von seiner Schwägerin angeheuerte Schläger kamen, um ihn zu töten, sich selbst den Oberschenkelknochen brach, um zu beweisen, dass er nicht fliehen würde, und über Nacht durch das Ertragen des Schmerzes die Arahantschaft erlangte.

A Thera of Sāvatthi, better known as Kuṭumbiyaputta-Tissa. He renounced four hundred million of wealth and became a monk dwelling in the forest. His younger brother’s wife sent five hundred ruffians to kill him. He begged them to spare his life for one night and broke his thigh-bone with a stone as proof that he would not attempt to escape. During the night he overcame his pain and, dwelling on his virtues, became an Arahant.⁵¹
