A Thera of Sāvatthi, better known as Kuṭumbiyaputta-Tissa. He renounced four hundred million of wealth and became a monk dwelling in the forest. His younger brother’s wife sent five hundred ruffians to kill him. He begged them to spare his life for one night and broke his thigh-bone with a stone as proof that he would not attempt to escape.
