Une ville, patrie de Devī, mère de Mahinda et Saṅghamittā, identifiée à l’actuelle Bhilsa près de Bhopal en Inde

A city, the home of Devī, mother of Mahinda. He and Saṅghamittā were born there, and, just before he left for Sri Lanka, he went there to visit his mother and stayed for one month in the monastery, which was also called Vedisagiri. (Dpv.vi.15; xii.14, 35; Sp.i.70, 71; Mhv.xiii.6-9,18).

Vedisa was fifty leagues from Pāṭaliputta and was founded by the Sākyā who fled from Viḍūḍabha’s massacre (Mbv., p.98).

Vedisa is identified with the modern Bhilsa in Gwalior State, twenty-six miles north east of Bhopal. Mhv. Trs. 88, n. 4.
